  • Entry 155: What does your favorite celebrity reflect?

I decided to see what was HBO movies On Demand while I was eating dinner. I needed a good laugh, and saw that the movie "Accepted" was available. There was a actress in there who I instantly recognized as the star of the CW's new show "Gossip Girl".

I know. I know. Why would I ever admit to watching a soapy drama that's target for young women. Well to make it clear, it was Yukino who turned it on, and I happened to be watch along.

I'm really impressed by this actress in question, Blake Lively, as she portrays many of the qualities I like about an actress. She's seems calm, kind, confident, intelligent, and stunningly beautiful. She reminds me of Jennifer Connelly who is one of my all time celebrity crushes. Already looking to the future, if she really is that good, hopefully she won't be typecasted because of her starring role.

Now I wonder what your favorite celebrity reflects? Do you think it's an insight to the qualities you are looking for in a significant other?... Perhaps...

  • Entry 154: Sunset

The heavy week passed. Yesterday I witness probably the best place to watch a sunset in DC. September 29th 6:45pm. Across from the Jefferson Memorial, at the area of the Tidal Basin where the cherry blossom trees are. There is a patch where the railing ends and you can dangle your feet over the edge. I didn't think a place with a nice sunset existed... being that that here in the East Coast the sun rises above the water, and sets over land. This particular one was beautiful. Sad. But beautiful no doubt.

Tonight is uncomfortably quiet. The Giants Eagle game is on TV just, so it helps add noise the apartment. Still, there's the lack of a genuine human voice. There's no conversation.

  • Entry 151: Rocketboom

Okay. My random surfing on the internet turned up this gem of a site.

    http://www.rocketboom.com/

I didn't realize channels for internet news like this existed, but it looks cool. The anchor is smart, funny, and kinda hot... all in a informal kind of way. The August 22 clip delivering news from A to Z.

Caught the August 21 clip too. Extreme ironing is wickedly hilarious!

  • Entry 150: Paupu

He had a distinct way that he talked, where he carries a big smile on his face.
The grin of his teeth holds fast and he exclaims his words in enthusiasm.
Paupu was a great man with a lot of character.
That's how I will remember him.

Damn, I just don't check messages my inbox on Social Network sites often enough.

  • Entry 144: One Donut and a Half

Here's the friendly challenge today at work: 1 bite, 1.5 donuts.

I found out today that I can stuff one donut and a half into my mouth. The hard part was chewing and swallowing.
I was successful. But I don't want to do that again any time soon.

When I was younger the dumbest thing ever put into my mouth was a quarter slice of an orange (with the peel still in tact. It's one of those things you can get in easily, but not get out. It fit snug right behind my teeth, but was fit so well that I couldn't get any more motion in my mouth, up down or sideways. I could only breath through my nose and my jaws ached like crazy.

Why do we have a fascination with devouring larger quantities of food? I don't know.

  • Entry 143: The Pains of Uncertainty

It was rough a few days ago. Talking Thurday night exhausted me, and it effected me the next day. In the morning driving to work, and in the early evening driving back home. It was raining on my commute back on Friday night. The thick drop of water drowned out most of the traffic noise. I played some songs enhace the atmosphere, but the songs that played were ones which I couldn't keep the tears in. Damn it hurts.

We talked a bit more today. The tone of these discussions can vary a lot sometimes. I'm not certain what might come out of it. What I do know is that I am not ready to make a decision yet. So I'll take some time to figure things out.

  • Entry 142: Live Earth

    Happy 07/07/07.

I was really impressed at the overall sucess of this event, to promote awareness of the environment.
I was a little disappointed that the event in Washington DC really wasn't as phenomenal as the over cities in the world. Else I would have ventured to participate myself. It's nice that caring about the world is branded as "cool".

  • Entry 141: How Adult Are You?

Another sleepless night. I think I'm crazy.
Red bull is my friend. Listening to music while preparing reports.
Mr G. is visiting our apartment, so we were tidying our place in the middle of the night. Yukino did way more than I did.

One the shows I like on NPR is Fair Game. Faith Salie just has the most wonderful voice, and her interviews are both entertaining and have a younger flavor to them. Anyways when I was browsing through the archives, I came across a show where an expert argued that adolescence was a creation of American society, that many young adults are very competent and ready to be adults, and that drawing a hard divide by locking them among their aged peers may be hurting them. Interesting study. Interesting theory. The doctor doing the research even made an adultness test that can be found at howadultareyou.com.

  • Entry 138: Malaysia's Food Familiar and Strange

What I was really looking forward to on this Malaysia trip was to taste the local delicacies. Back in DC I frequented the restaurant Penang which was the closest thing we had to Malaysian food. Among my favorites dishes is char koay teow, a soft flat noodle dish cooked with prawns and a spicy sauce.

Well today's lunch was one of the best. First to cool down I had star fruit juice... so refreshing. Where would you be able to get fresh star fruit back in the US? Next was a oyster dish cooked with eggs and a gelatinous dish. Then came the long awaited for plate of char koay teow. We specifically picked this hole in the wall restaurant, because Yukino specifically spotted it out as the best place in Penang for char koay teow. All I know is that it definitely lived up to it's name. The noodles were soft, tasty and fresh. The prawns were crisp and also fresh and blended well with the egg. The spiciness complimented the dish so well that I didn't recognize that it was spicy. And they used the Chinese smoked sausages in the this dish, which added to it's sweet flavor. Bean sprouts and chives topped off perfectly as the vegetables. The most surprising ingredient that I found in the truly authentic version of this dish though was was lard. That's right lard. Boy it mush be incredibly unhealthy for me. But it sure tasted heavenly.

Dessert. Ice kacang. Yummy. The root beer syrup surprised me. Could do without the corn.

The meal at dinner included a new type of shellfish I never had. It's a crustacean called prawn mantis. It was battered and fried with the yolk of salted eggs for a unique flavor. It took a little while to get use to looking at it's head... But if you look more at it as food and less of it as animal, it makes it go down your stomach earlier.
